A New Health Center For The County

Prince George’s To Break Ground On New, State-Of-The-Art County Health Center

Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the County Health Department, and County leaders broke ground on the County Health Department’s new Health Center on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. This new, state-of-the-art facility replaces the County Health Department’s aging Cheverly Health Center. The event took place at 9001 Edmonston Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770.

Prince George’s County is committed to expanding access to healthcare. The new facility will play a pivotal role in providing vaccinations and key public health services, including behavioral health, dental, disease investigation and control, a reproductive health resource center (STI/STD), and more.

“We are Prince George’s Proud to officially break ground on our new, state-of-the-art health center, marking yet another important step forward for Prince Georgians’ health,” said Alsobrooks. “Our goal is to offer our residents new opportunities to receive care close to home and build the kind of healthcare infrastructure this community deserves. This new building is another step forward in our administration’s strategy to improve the health of our residents, and we want to thank all of our partners who helped make this new health center possible.”

In addition, the new facility aims to reduce patient wait times, enhance staff-to-patient ratios, introduce modernized equipment such as telehealth capabilities, improve the waiting room experience, and streamline patient processing. The larger facility will also allow the Health Department to expand healthcare services in the future based on community needs.

Also in attendance were Dr. Matthew Levy, Health Officer of the Prince George’s County Health Department, Jonathan Butler, Director of Prince George’s County Office of Central Services, and Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid Watson, District 4.

“In its expanded capacity, this facility is tailored to meet the ever-changing healthcare needs of our community,” stated Dr. Levy. “This new health center highlights our commitment to broadening healthcare access and delivering important public health services.”
