Prince George’s County To Host Public Engagement Forum For PGCPS CEO Search

As a part of the search process for the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), County Executive Angela Alsobrooks will host a Public Engagement Forum on Wednesday, April 26, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Charles H. Flowers High School in Springdale. The County Executive will be joined by members of the national search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, as well as the three members of the CEO search committee: Brigadier General Warner Sumpter, Oretha Bridgewater-Simms, and Candace Hollingsworth. In accordance with State law, two members of the committee are County residents appointed by the Governor, and a third member is a member of the State Board of Education appointed by the State Superintendent.

Residents interested in testifying at the forum must register online by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 25. Testimony will be limited to 3 minutes per person. Written testimony is also being accepted and can be submitted via email to CountyExecutive@co.pg.md.us by 5:00 PM on Friday, April 28. Residents can register to testify online at: https://bit.ly/CEOForumApril26

The public engagement forum is an additional opportunity for residents to provide feedback directly to those involved in the search and decision-making process for the next PGCPS CEO. So far, the County has conducted focus groups, interviews, and an online survey to get feedback from residents and stakeholders. The online survey received responses from more than 5,400 community members and stakeholders. The results indicate that the ideal CEO candidate is courageous, innovative, a collaborative leader, and an outstanding communicator with vast experience in kindergarten through twelfth grade instructional and administrative leadership.

Following the public engagement forum, the search process will continue in accordance with State law. The CEO search committee will conduct interviews with eligible candidates and recommend three of those candidates to the County Executive for consideration. Candidates will then be interviewed by the County Executive, who will select a new CEO. The County’s goal is to select and appoint a new CEO by June 30, 2023.
