Wear a high-quality (N95/KN95 or P-100) mask when outdoors. Masks will be made available by your agency.
Limit outdoor work where possible.
Everyone, regardless of age or health status, should avoid long or intense outdoor activities.
Outdoor County events are canceled for today, June 8, 2023.
All health, construction, and property enforcement inspections will be suspended for today, June 8, 2023. All emergency services are fully operational. Prince George’s County Public Schools and the Department of Parks and Recreation have already cancelled all outdoor activities. The County Government will continue to evaluate air quality and determine if County services will be impacted tomorrow, June 9, 2023.
Residents are encouraged to follow the below safety precautions outlined by the Prince George’s County Health Department:
Stay Indoors: It is essential to remain indoors as much as possible during this period. Only venture outside if it is absolutely necessary.
Mask Usage: If you must go outdoors, ensure that you wear the right mask at all times. This additional layer of protection will help reduce the amount of harmful pollutants you are exposed to. Please remember to follow proper mask-wearing guidelines.
Close Windows and Doors: Keep all windows and doors closed to minimize the entry of polluted air into your living and working spaces.
Avoid Strenuous Activities: Refrain from engaging in strenuous activities, such as exercising, outdoors during this time. Choose indoor alternatives or rest until the air quality improves.
Pet Safety: Remember that the air quality can also affect your pets. Avoid taking them for walks during this period. If your pet needs to relieve themselves, ensure it is done quickly, and then bring them back indoors.
Use an Air Filter: If possible, use a freestanding indoor air filter with particle removal. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on filter replacement and proper placement.
Minimize Outdoor Work: If your work involves spending time outside, consider reducing your workload if possible. If not, make sure to wear a K95/KN95 or P-100 mask to provide optimal protection.
Seek Medical Attention: If you experience difficulty breathing, nausea, or dizziness, seek medical attention immediately. Your well-being is of the utmost importance, and professional medical assistance should be sought if needed.
