County Executive Alsobrooks Announces Hiring Of First LGBTQIA+ Liaison Within Prince George’s County Government

In a historic development, the position of LGBTQIA+ Liaison has been created in Prince George’s County. On June 8, Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced that Mr. Antonio M. Driver has been hired as the County’s first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Liaison, a new position created by the Alsobrooks Administration. He will begin his new role on June 19.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Driver to Prince George’s as our new LGBTQIA+ Liaison,” said Alsobrooks.

The county executive says that the LGBTQIA+ community has sought the creation of such an office for some time.

“We created this first-ever position after hearing the concerns of our LGBTQIA+ community about the lack of such a position within County Government,” Alsobrooks says. “With Mr. Driver’s background, knowledge, and expertise, we are confident that he will support our efforts to further connect with our County’s LGBTQIA+ community. We strive to be a government that represents all communities and remain committed to ensuring that we meet the needs of all who call Prince George’s home.”

Mr. Driver joins the County with extensive experience in activism, outreach, program management and operations, and community and social services within the LGBTQIA+ community. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Speakout in Washington, D.C. where he is responsible for promoting the organization’s mission through outreach and advocacy, establishing the organization’s strategic goals, managing the organization’s operations and $1.2 million budget, developing, and implementing fundraising approaches, and researching grant opportunities to support the organization’s efforts.

“It is with great honor that I have been selected and appointed to fill this role,” said Mr. Driver. “I look forward to bringing my seven years of expertise and professional relationships to this role to continue expanding the tremendous effort and work currently being done around getting resources and support to the LGBTQIA+ community of Prince George’s County.”

Mr. Driver’s previous work experience includes serving as a Family Support Worker for Catholic Charities in Washington, D.C., a Case Manager for the Village Care Center in New York, NY, and a Program Manager for the HIV testing program with the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force in Pittsburgh, PA.
