Prince George’s County Filmmaker Jewell Powell Breaks Into Film Industry

Author, entrepreneur, and now breakout filmmaker, Jewell Powell, is setting her mark in the independent film market with her premiere project, "Unfailing Love," a locally produced film showcasing a stellar cast and storyline for lovers and family alike.
The film premiered at an invite-only screening held at the Regal Hyattsville Royale Theatre July 7. County and regional VIPs attended the standing room only event in recognition of a daughter of Prince George’s who has made a movie filmed completely within the county. The film received incredible feedback, heightening the anticipation for its public screening, set to stream over various platforms in upcoming weeks.
A Christian-based, romance drama, Powell tells the story of a man named Hosea, played by Tremayne Blair, who tells the tale of an unexpected love story. While listening intently to the word of God, Hosea thinks he found love when he meets Sonya, a woman of pure heart and character, but beyond his wildest dreams, his heart chooses the will of God and instead seeks partnership with a rather promiscuous and spiritually misguided woman named Arianna, played by Kelsey Delemar.
Inspired by the biblical book of Hosea, a prophet God used to illustrate the message of repentance to his people, Powell turns scripture to the screen by portraying the power of God’s love for his own and inspiring those searching for answers and even forgiveness in their own relationships. The divine institution of marriage has played a key role in the messages weaved into Powell’s various works, including previously published books “Marriage 101: Building a Life Together by Faith,” published in 2009 and “Open Invitation: Bride Make Yourself Ready!” released in 2021.
“That union of marriage is so critical to the Heavenly Father, and why he created marriage in the first place. In that, we are supposed to understand a covenant which is unbreakable,” said Powell. “He is teaching us how to love like He loves. It’s an understanding of a love that is so deep, and when you truly understand it, you can work it out.”
One of Prince George’s County’s very own, Powell’s roots inspired a lot of visual elements shown throughout the film, from her brief dedication to a beloved teacher of hers from Green Valley Elementary School to the various scenes captured in the film, her hometown serves as the backdrop for each scene.
