New Carrollton Mayor Katrina Dodro was all smiles as Maryland Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Dawn Flythe Moore joined other law enforcement officials at the city’s observance of National Night Out on August 1.
“This is beautiful because this is community, this is family and when we talk about public safety it means putting everything together,” said Moore in a brief interview as he greeted city residents. “This is community, this is love, this is what we celebrate.”
NNO celebrations were held across the country, and in many communities across the area, as federal and local police organizations posted events with residents in their communities.
This was the first NNO for Katrina Dodro who defeated former Mayor Phelicia Nembhard on May 2.
On Tuesday night the chief was elated that New Carrollton’s Beckett Field was filled with citizens as well as the Governor, other state officials, and federal law enforcement. Nemhardt said in a phone interview that she was prohibited from coming to the event.
“The fact that the Governor chose us only is a special moment not just for me but for all residents,” Rice said in an interview. “Our Governor Wes Moore, you couldn't find a more special person. It has been a monumental day for our entire city and I am thankful.”
