County Executive Angela Alsobrooks Announces Budget Priorities For 2024 Legislative Session To Boost Investments In Healthcare And The Economy

County Executive Angela Alsobrooks has announced budget priorities for the 2024 Legislative Session.

"Access to high-quality health care is a right for every American,” said Alsobrooks. “In October, we unveiled a new, comprehensive report on our County’s specific healthcare needs. The report showed a vast disparity in access to care that Prince Georgians have compared to the rest of Maryland. Our funding requests during this year’s General Assembly will serve as a downpayment towards a larger investment in our community.”

Going in to the 2024 legislative session, some of the County Executive’s top priorities include more than $60 million in capital funding for healthcare infrastructure, targeted investments in maternity health and OB-GYN services, and investments in primary care across the County.

The County Executive will also seek funds to support key economic investments along the Blue Line Corridor. This includes funding for a film studio in the Arts and Entertainment District that will push our local entertainment industry forward. As well as an additional $16.8 million in funding for development parcels that will help build a true, walkable Downtown Largo.

The County Executive has additional funding priorities that will create new opportunities across the County. This includes $5 million that was pre-authorized during the 2023 legislative session to complete the Cheverly Hospital demolition, unlocking over a billion dollars of investment opportunity for the County. And increased funding for wraparound services that will benefit important Maryland Out-of-School Time programs that create new opportunities for students. Finally, County Executive Alsobrooks will seek additional investments in green infrastructure and stormwater management that help meet long-term environmental goals.
