County Leaders, Residents, Colleagues Family And Friends Gather to Honor The Inspirational Business Manager

Story And Photos By Raoul Dennis

Mirinda Jackson left an indelible mark on the lives of residents and leaders of small businesses of Prince George’s County in her work as MBE Compliance Manager.

That fact was made more evident among the nearly 300 who attended the homegoing services April 10, 2024 for the beloved business manager and mentor who dedicated her life to elevating dozens of small, women owned and minority businesses. The service was held at the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.

In her remarks, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks repeatedly referred to the gaping loss that the county will endure in the absence of Jackson’s presence. More than a 9 to 5 oriented office manager, Jackson was recognized as a champion and guardian of small business startups and women owned businesses in Prince George’s. The veteran compliance officer often spoke of the 5,000 business owners listed in her database and demonstrated her active effort to do all she could to actively engage their success — well beyond what her job description may have required.

“If you came into an event and Mirinda was there, you knew you were in the right place,” Alsobrooks said as the members of the service nodded their heads in agreement and a few “Amen” replies could be heard [listen to excerpts from the County Executive’s remarks [click above “CE Alsobrooks At Mirinda Jackson Funeral,” above].

Among the most heartwarming remarks were made by Jackson’s Goddaughter/stepdaughter Kim Ford. Ford’s own story and journey from Korea to the United States was enough to draw heartfelt tears from listeners. But Jackson’s chosen effort to come into Ford’s life and become the missing family to look to and lean on without any bloodline between the two women served notice to everyone within earshot that Mirinda was a force for love and family beyond gene pools, titles and family reunions. Tears of joy flowed freely throughout the room [click above “Kim Ford At Mirinda Jackson Funeral,” below].
