Alsobrooks Brings 7 Policy Points To Meet & Greet
U.S. Senate Candidate Angela Alsobrooks Attended A Meet And Greet Hosted By Maryland Freshman State Delegate Jamila Woods At The National Golf Club At Tantallon, Where She Presented Seven Key Aspects Of Her Platform, As Follows.
· Strengthen Economy: “Economic opportunity, as I travel the state, is the number one issue among families.” She agrees that constituents should achieve economic solvency, and that young people should have the opportunity to reach their parents’ standard of living.
· Education: “I want for our children to have the single best education possible, just as we have invested here [in Prince George’s County]. We've got to invest in ways that allow children, without respect for their zip code, to have a quality education. I'll be fighting for things like increasing funding for Title I schools. I'll also be fighting for Individuals with Disabilities and Education Act, so that our children who have disabilities have a chance because they get a solid education,” Alsobrooks said.
· Health Care: Alsobrooks vows to work for affordable heath care. She railed against astronomical drug costs, citing her father’s Eliquis tagged at $800 per month, asking “How many families can honestly afford an $800 prescription?”
· Social Security: Saving Social Security is a top priority. Alsobrooks explained that Social Security is expected to bankrupt by 2035. She supports the Larson Bill, which would compel individuals earning more than $400,000 per year to pay their share into Social Security to continue its solvency.
· Women’s Health and Reproductive Rights: Alsobrooks wants to restore women’s sovereignty over their bodies and reproductive freedoms − abortion rights, the right to contraception and access to in-vitro-fertilization.
· Supreme Court: Ms. Alsobrooks expects that the next presidential administration will replace two to three Supreme Court Justices. She stressed the importance of a Democratic majority in the Senate for nominating justices who share Democratic values.
· Veterans: Alsobrooks believes in supporting veterans, citing that Prince George’s County boasts the largest share of veterans in the state. “They fought for our freedoms. Now we’re going to have to fight for them as well,” she said.
Alsobrooks showed no disrespect to her opponent, instead emphasizing the risks of electing him. “The question we're answering is not whether or not we like Larry Hogan. Because I like Larry Hogan. I worked with him when I was county executive, and he was governor. The question we are answering in this election is who should have the 51st vote in the Senate of the United States. Whether it is the caucus that is led by Donald Trump, or whether the caucus that will soon be led by Kamala Harris. Whether it is the Democrats or the Republicans who will have the majority in the Senate.”
