County Council Awards Half-Million in Domestic Violence Grant Funding
The county continues the necessary work of focusing attention on domestic violence.
The Prince George’s County Council has awarded $500,000 in grant funding for Fiscal Year 2025 to support 10 community organizations addressing domestic violence in the county, with awards ranging between $20,000 and $85,000.
The Council’s Domestic Violence Grant Program, founded in FY 2017, provides funding support to nonprofits offering advocacy and legal help, counseling and mental health services, housing, and workforce development assistance to victims of domestic violence in the county. The list of awardees includes organizations whose programs and activities have brought more resources to Prince George’s County and support domestic violence prevention through a coordinated and collaborative community response.
Combatting domestic violence is a top priority for the County Council, as it continues to be a significant health and safety issue in the county. So far this year, Prince George’s County Police Department has reported 69 cases of domestic violence. In October, the Council, sitting as the Board of Health, hosted a panel discussion on domestic violence, exploring its complexity and bringing together key perspectives on health, safety net resources, and public safety.
The Council’s annual grant funding aims to ensure a more comprehensive and compassionate response to domestic violence, blending the expertise of government and nonprofits to create long-term positive change in the lives of survivors and their communities.
