On March 28, Giant Foods celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Bowie, MD at South Lake Marketplace.
The new store will include full-service meat and seafood departments, an expanded gourmet cheese selection, expansive prepared food offerings, freshly made sushi, and a Starbucks.
As part of this expansion, Giant Food is introducing its 50th in-store Ledo Pizza location, providing customers with their local favorite square pizza. In the Giant Food Deli section, customers will find the same pastry-thin, square crust, and sweet tomato sauce that they’ve loved from Ledo Pizza.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Gary Michael from the development company NAI Michael pointed out that the indoor Sports Park will be across from Giant. Adjacent Liberty Sports Park is, “Attracting Youth Sports tournaments from all over the region and the new indoor sport facility will do the same, but on steroids. And you know, the ability for kids to be able to recreate and enjoy the rest of this community is something that's unique and something that'll really drive a lot of success here.”
Acting County Executive Tara Jackson applauded the anchor store as a part of the growth of the new Liberty Sports Park community.
“As you heard, people are flocking to this growing Community, improving the quality of life for our families. Situated between Liberty Sports Park, which I frequent quite regularly to watch my son play soccer, the Collington trade zone and National Capital Business Park. this South Lake Marketplace GIANT location will not only give residents a nearby grocery store, but will provide thousands of families in this area an upscale grocery shopping experience here in Bowie. Having Giant as part of South Lake Marketplace will add to the walkable community that NAI has built with its vast mixed-use development,” Jackson said. The acting executive also announced a proclamation for GIANT’s new enterprise.
Giant donated $5,000 to Liberty Sports Park and the Green Branch Foundation, Liberty’s nonprofit fundraising partner.
Bowie Mayor Tim Adams said, “It's a big day for Bowie Jobs. It's going to mean, obviously, healthy food. What else does it mean in your vision for a Bowie that the Giant is now here? Well, it’s being an anchor. It's about Community. It shows the community coming together and the economic impact. It is a little gem here.”
