Braveboy Appoints Maxene Bardwell as Prince George’s County’s Next Chief Administrative Officer

Prince George’s County, MD — In a swift move following her June 3 election victory, Prince George’s County Executive-Elect Aisha Braveboy announced the appointment of Maxene Bardwell as the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) on June 5. Bardwell, a longtime Prince George’s County resident, will bring a strong record in public accountability and operational oversight to one of the county’s top leadership positions.

Currently serving as Internal Audit Manager for Montgomery County, Bardwell’s background includes extensive work in auditing and performance evaluation across local government agencies. As CAO, she will act as second in command to the County Executive, overseeing daily operations, setting departmental goals, managing resource allocation, and ensuring overall governmental efficiency.

Executive-Elect Braveboy emphasized Bardwell’s qualifications and the urgent tasks ahead. “I am thrilled that Maxene Bardwell will bring her talents home as the next Chief Administrative Officer for Prince George’s County,” Braveboy stated. “My priorities include confronting the county’s budget deficit, analyzing the spending and performance of each agency, and setting a course for a more prosperous future. Having Ms. Bardwell, with her years of experience promoting efficiency and accountability, as an auditor and inspector general allows us to begin our work without delay.”

The appointment signals Braveboy’s commitment to a data-driven and transparent administration, focused on fiscal responsibility and operational effectiveness. Bardwell’s expertise is expected to play a central role as the incoming administration prepares to tackle complex challenges and realign county operations for growth and equity.

"I consider this offer to be just an example of forward thinking by County Executive-Elect Braveboy to make sure that she has the best-in-class skill and experience in her administration working for the people of Prince George's County."
