New Appointment To Public Works

Bennett Takes the Helm at County Public Works and Transportation

Anthony C. Bennett is taking the wheel at one of Prince George’s County’s most essential agencies, bringing more than three decades of government, public safety and management experience to a job that touches daily life across the county.

County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy appointed Bennett acting director of the Department of Public Works and Transportation, effective October 15. He will oversee an agency responsible for approximately 2,000 miles of county roadways and transportation and public works functions serving residents, businesses and visitors.

Bennett moves into the role from the county’s Department of the Environment, where he served as deputy director. His responsibilities included landfill management, composting, trash collection, beautification initiatives, grants, contracts and administrative services.

His résumé also reflects a substantial focus on accountability. As director of the Office of Integrity, Compliance and Police Accountability and inspector general, Bennett worked to strengthen investigations and oversight alongside public safety stakeholders.

Earlier, at Florida’s Broward Sheriff’s Office, he oversaw detention and community-control operations, managed more than 1,300 employees and supported a $420 million operating environment.

He subsequently served as chief investigator for the Palm Beach County Commission on Ethics and deputy inspector general for Atlanta, helping establish that city’s inspector general’s office and leading investigations into fraud, waste, abuse and corruption.

Bennett holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Florida and a bachelor’s degree from Lynn University. A Certified Inspector General, he also completed command officer training at the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.
