Better health began with everyday choices—and First Baptist Church of Glenarden’s Live Well 2026 program put those choices within reach.

The free October 24 event in Upper Marlboro was designed around a welcoming idea: wellness had a place for every generation, fitness level and starting point. The church’s Community Life Center served as the designated setting for a program scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to the church’s event information, offerings included health screenings, free flu shots, cooking demonstrations, nutrition guidance and fitness activities. Family programming and active-aging resources rounded out an approach that connected physical health with emotional wellbeing.

The day’s schedule began with an 8-to-10 a.m. wellness walk led by the Spiritual Walkers around the Worship Center campus on Watkins Park Drive.

Licensed therapist and speaker Kier Gaines was listed as the guest speaker. His work emphasized emotional awareness, resilience and healthier relationships, complementing the program’s attention to mental wellness.

The church also highlighted opportunities to connect with businesses and organizations offering health and community resources.

For families balancing work, caregiving and busy calendars, the program’s practical emphasis carried particular relevance. Healthy living often competed with immediate demands; a community setting offered a useful framework for giving it greater attention.

Live Well’s central message extended beyond exercise or a single nutritious meal. It framed wellness as an ongoing practice involving movement, nourishment, rest and connection.

That family-centered perspective gave the event its broader significance: caring for oneself also meant strengthening the wellbeing of the people nearby.
