LaTara Harris Is New Appointment For Employ Prince George's

Prince George's County Is Turning To A Seasoned Public-Private Sector Leader To Guide Its Workforce Strategy Into Its Next Chapter.

County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy, alongside Employ Prince George's, Inc. and the Prince George's County Workforce Development Board, has announced the appointment of LaTara Harris, MBA, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Employ Prince George's and Executive Director of the Prince George's County Workforce Development Board. Harris is set to assume the role on July 1, 2026, following a transition period.

Harris steps into the position at a consequential moment for workforce development in Prince George's County, where leaders are increasingly focused on aligning job training, economic growth, and employer demand. She succeeds Walter L. Simmons, who left the organization in fall 2025 to join the administration of Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.

Currently serving as Chief of Staff to County Executive Braveboy, Harris brings more than three decades of leadership experience across the nonprofit, corporate, and public sectors. Her background includes service on the District of Columbia Workforce Investment Council, as well as executive leadership at Crittenton Services of Greater Washington, where she served as president and CEO. She also spent more than 10 years with AT&T as director of external and legislative affairs, managing government relations, community partnerships, and philanthropic investments across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Greater Philadelphia.

In announcing the appointment, Braveboy described Harris as a trusted and accomplished leader whose record reflects both vision and results. The county executive pointed to Harris' role in helping secure the Sphere project and more than $90 million in state legislative funding for Prince George's County as evidence of her ability to deliver.

Employ Prince George's has played a leading role in the county's workforce ecosystem, serving more than 100,000 job seekers and 15,000 businesses. Under Harris' leadership, the organization is expected to deepen its mission of connecting residents to career pathways, workforce training, and greater economic mobility while helping employers find skilled talent.

Board leaders framed the appointment as both strategic and timely. Michael Burke, chair of the Employ Prince George's Board of Directors, said Harris is well-positioned to unite government, business, education, and community partners around a competitive workforce agenda. Brad Frome, chair of the Prince George's County Workforce Development Board, added that Harris understands workforce development not simply as employment placement, but as a long-term engine for economic mobility and regional prosperity.

For Harris, the appointment reflects a continuation of work she has long embraced. In accepting the position, she said she looks forward to aligning Employ Prince George's strategy with the Braveboy administration's priorities in youth, education, and economic development - with the broader goal of helping both businesses and residents flourish.

A longtime Prince George's County resident, Harris holds an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus and a Bachelor of Science from Bowie State University.
