A Just And Fair Outcome In Chauvin Case
Prince George’s County Council Member At-Large Mel Franklin's Statement on the Guilty Verdict in the Derek Chauvin Trial
By At Large County Councilman Mel Franklin
This week, a Minnesota jury found former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murdering George Floyd. Prince George’s County Council Member At-Large Mel Franklin issued the following statement:
“Today’s guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial is a just and fair outcome. I send my sincere condolences and prayers to George Floyd’s family. His life was ended maliciously and recklessly by Derek Chauvin. Chauvin is a disgrace to the vast and overwhelming majority of law enforcement officers who ably protect our communities with courage and professionalism each and every day. His conviction and eventual imprisonment are victories for those who love freedom, fairness, and justice across our nation and around the world. We will never forget the heinous 9 minutes and 29 seconds that our nation watched in horror as Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd. But we shall also never relent on the broader cause of justice and equity that were sparked in the wake of his death. May God rest his soul and let us continue to pray for peace and justice for all of our communities.
