Hoyer Congratulates Wes Moore on Winning Democratic Primary
By Steny Hoyer
Steny Hoyer is a United States Congressman representing Maryland’s fifth district. He is the Majority Leader in the House of Representatives.
"I want to congratulate Wes Moore on his victory. I've been proud to stand with Wes and help share his message of possibility for what we can achieve as Marylanders and as Democrats. Together with Aruna Miller, whose service in the House of Delegates and expertise in infrastructure and community planning will make her an excellent Lieutenant Governor, this ticket has what it takes to win in November.
“When I endorsed Wes in April, I said that he ‘stands out as a candidate whose experience, vision, and talent can lead Maryland toward a brighter future by inspiring our people — particularly our young people — to work together to face our toughest challenges.' I believe that Wes is the leader who can lift us up and challenge us to dream big and achieve great things for Maryland. His victory against many other highly qualified and experienced candidates shows that more Marylanders every day are coming to see in Wes what I saw when I chose to offer him my support. I was proud to see Prince George’s County and communities across the Fifth District give Wes a clear and resounding win.
"Wes’s background and message stand in sharp contrast to that of the extremist candidate nominated by Republicans, an individual who not only perpetuates the former president’s election lie but also organized buses to bring insurrectionists to the U.S. Capitol on January 6 last year. It’s no wonder that Gov. Hogan has said he cannot bring himself to vote for his party’s nominee. This election provides Marylanders with a clear choice between a proven leader who seeks to unite us with a dangerous individual who sows division and stokes extremism.
“As we unite our party with an eye toward November, I look forward to campaigning with Wes Moore, Aruna Miller, and with the rest of our Democratic ticket as we offer Marylanders a platform of progress, commonsense solutions, and a commitment to building a democracy in which all voices are heard and everyone has a chance to Make It In America, ‘leaving no one behind.’”
