Addressing The Shutdown
Council To Hold Special Oct 7 Session With Community In Response To Shutdown
As we face the possibility of a government shutdown tomorrow, I know that many in our community are feeling uncertain. Prince George’s County is home to one of the largest concentrations of federal workers in the nation, and Maryland has been hit harder than any other state when it comes to unemployed federal employees. I want you to know that I hear you, I understand your concerns, and I am committed to ensuring our county stands with you.
That is why the Prince George’s County Council will hold a public hearing on CB-024-2025, the Federal Worker Emergency Assistance Act of Prince George’s County, on Monday, October 7th at 10:00AM at the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building, 1301 McCormick Drive, Largo, MD 20774.
CB-024 provides:
Priority hiring for county jobs to displaced federal workers
Incentives for local businesses that employ laid-off federal employees
Expanded food assistance programs to help families through this time of need
This legislation is about ensuring that when federal workers are forced to bear the brunt of decisions beyond their control, Prince George’s County will step up to protect them and their families.
I encourage you to attend and share your voice at the hearing. Your input will help shape how we, as a county, continue to stand with and support our federal workforce during times of hardship.
