Braveboy, Council, Ivey Stand Against ICE Presence

Dear Neighbors,

Today, I had the opportunity to escort a young mother for a “spontaneous” check-in for her asylum case. She was instructed to leave her children at home, including her breastfeeding child. I prayed on the way that she would not be detained and that her family would be okay. I can’t imagine how this neighbor has been able to be so strong for her family after her brother-in-law was deported, then her husband was violently abducted around Christmas and deported, still keeping a smile on her face for those around her.

While she was not taken today and her court case date remains, the case manager stated to her “No one can save you, no matter how big a group you bring.”

At-Large County Councilmember Jolene Ivey

This is terror, pure and simple, and I wish I could be present to support every person who is experiencing this nightmare. Please know that while I may not be able to answer every call to be in person to support, I am doing my best to combat these assaults on our community.

I appreciate Montgomery County Councilmember Kristin Mink for all her work fighting for our residents, for we are all our brothers’ keepers.

Last week, CEX Braveboy held a press conference regarding the terror we are seeing inflicted on our neighbors in our county.

With County Executive Braveboy’s leadership on signing Executive Order 09-2026, she expedited implementing safety measures for our community in county spaces. This order immediately enacts measures on a bill I have been working on. Because the legislative process takes months to become permanent, her partnership ensures protections now.

Please click here to see parts of the press conference.

Every week, we hear rumors of increased ICE presence coming to Maryland and specifically Prince George’s County. Whether we can validate the rumors or not, what I know is that the fear and concern that each one of us is feeling for our neighbors, for our family members, and even for ourselves.

I, like you, am seeing what is happening in other areas of the country, like Minneapolis and Chicago. I also have been seeing and hearing about the daily assaults on our residents here in the county.

I have been working on legislation that is focused on keeping county spaces safe, ensuring law enforcement is identifiable, and being explicitly clear in the zoning code the definition of “detention centers” in order to prohibit them in the county as it relates to immigration proceedings.

I am grateful that my council colleagues are all on the same page. I appreciate their efforts and work on their bills and resolutions and am supportive on measures that will keep our residents safe.

I am once again very grateful to County Executive Braveboy for her support, her leadership, and her partnership as we all work to keep our county safe.

I have been working with different organizations that have been assisting the families who have had loved ones kidnapped off of our streets. My office has connected food resources, utility resources, rent assistance, maternity resources to these hard-working families. We will not stop, but we know we must do more. I am thankful for the advocates on the ground who let me and my office know what they are seeing and what resources are needed to address this emergency.

Many have reached out to my office regarding the expansion of Office of the Principal Legal Advisors (OPLA) at 6505 Belcrest Road. On February 19, my office, along with Congressman Ivey’s office, organized a protest march to say “NO” to any expansion of ICE activities in our county.

The first final inspection of Use & Occupancy failed on February 12, 2026.

It appears that there was no entry to allow inspection on February 25, 2026.

And a new inspection is scheduled for March 3, 2026.

As we continue to monitor the situation and try to confirm information that is floating around, I ask that you stay safe; that, if you are able, you will get involved with the different grassroots organizations that are out there; and that you continue to keep my office updated.

Thank you to Congressman Ivey and CARECEN for the Know Your Rights (In Language) webinar this past Monday night. My office will continue to work with our partners to provide more training and updates, so please stay tuned.

For those who need resources, please take a look at a few here and if you need my office, email us at at-largememberivey@co.pg.md.us.
