Bluejacket: an enlisted man or woman in the U.S. Navy. Commander, Submarine Group 7 (CSG 7) Bluejacket of the Year is a junior enlisted Sailor that is selected through a highly competitive process throughout a command. He or she is recognized as the highest performing junior Sailor that fully embodies the Navy core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
When a County’s son is recognized as the highest performing Junior Sailor, hearts fill with pride. And when that son’s hometown is Upper Marlboro, in Prince George’s County, MD, the feeling is overwhelmingly Prince George’s Proud.
Native son Jeremiah Everett, who joined the Navy in 2017 has been recognized Commander, Submarine Group 7 (CSG 7) 2019 Bluejacket of the Year.
Currently stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, Everett, whose title is information Systems Technician 2nd class, performs duties that include network administration, database management, and computer hardware and software implementation. As a radio division supervisor at CSG 7, Everett and his team maintain communications between CSG 7 and submarines that are deployed in the 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
Of his position, Everett said, “Being an IT was something that was fairly new to me, but I have truly grown to love it. My experience at IT ‘A’ school really motivated me to continue to pursue more opportunities in the field, and ultimately, I completed my college degree in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity. There is so much to learn, and the technology field is ever-growing. I am going to continue to seek further opportunities to advance my knowledge and career.”
Everett’s Chief Petty Officer, Senior Chief Information Systems Technician Wyatt Simpson said of the CSG 7 2019 Bluejacket of the Year nominee, “Petty Officer Everett is sewn into the very fabric of the command. As a supervisor in a critical position, he and his team are essential in the execution of the command's mission. Outside his long work hours, he divides his time between college classes and command programs. His involvement within and outside of the command is demonstrative of his commitment to 'team' and the betterment of those around him.”
Everett credits many people including his parents for his success; but it is his diligence, dedication, and hard work that makes him the living embodiment of the words, ‘Faith, courage, service true With honor… over all.’
