Last November, Six Flags America, spanning over 515 acres and generating over $3 million in revenue, closed.
But through the voice of a new leader and the energy of a prominent son of Prince George’s, there’s a push for something new, something that might be better.
County Executive Aisha Braveboy, Kevin Durant’s 35V development representatives, and G.S. Proctor and Associates hosted a town hall to hear residents’ opinions on the matter at the Wayne K. Curry Building in a livestreamed town hall meeting on June 25.
County Executive Aisha Braveboy said the land is a major source of income for the surrounding areas, underscoring the importance of this decision. The County Council wants a future site that the community would enjoy, be inclusive of everyone, and be more successful than the venue it formerly hosted.
Over 80 people attended the event, voicing their opinions on what the future site could hold.
A couple of days before the event, Prince George’s County Council sent a survey to the community, asking for their ideas on how the future site could be used. Over a thousand responses were received calling for restaurants, beautiful scenery to enjoy with family and friends, and more retail places.
The overall desire was to use the area to provide easy access to retail, eateries, and job opportunities, and to attract more consumers from outside the county.
Residents can continue to voice their concerns, questions, ideas, or request updates about the development process by reaching out to the County District Six office or through the survey link.
