Building A Blessing
Christmas in April Celebrates 33 Years in Prince George’s County
For over three decades, April has meant good things for struggling homeowners and, in spite of COVID-19, this year was no different.
After months of planning and preparation, Prince George’s County, Maryland, will bring great rewards to forty-seven local homeowners and 500 volunteers who helped them Saturday, April 24, as the county celebrates Christmas in April Event Day for the thirty-third year. Christmas in April is one of the county’s leading volunteer organizations that has been preserving and revitalizing low-income houses and communities since 1989.
From across the region, disabled homeowners will now get much-needed outdoor work done but thwarted as a result of COVID-19. Leaders at Christmas in April in Prince George’s County work to make a sustainable impact in partnership with businesses, church groups and other civic organizations.
Volunteers, with the help of national and local sponsors and material and supply donors, work to ensure that elderly homeowners, particularly those who are low-income and disabled, can live in warm homes, be safe and remain independent.
To date, the event will have repaired 2,761 homes in Prince George’s County with the help of 93,900 volunteers with an estimated $49.7 million in donated work.
