There is no such thing as a bad day for golf. Somewhere the weather is always just right. One just needs to be in the right place.

On April 30, the right place was the Country Club at Woodmore just as nearly a dozen teams of golfers set up to play at the 2017 Pink Ball invitational.

The event is gaining momentum as a regional bookmark on annual calendars raising funds for Thomas Graham's old Alma Mater, honoring his mother, and celebrating his birthday. Graham invited a few hundred of his closest friends to join him at Woodmore for an afternoon of golf, fellowship and fundraising for the Olive C. Graham Endowed Scholarship.  Donations exceeded $35,000 bringing the total scholarship to over $170,000. Graham pledges $500,000 over a 10 year period.

Graham said this year’s turnout was more than double of last year’s with some 100 guests in attendance. VIPs and elected officials included State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce President & CEO David Harrington, Sen. Doug J. J. Peters (D-Dist. 23) and  G.S. Proctor & Associate’s President & CEO Steve Proctor, among others.

After, friends and guests enjoyed the greens, miniature golf, massage therapy, hand-rolled cigars and a cognac tasting. One of the high points included taking golf shots across the lake in the late afternoon.  Vocalist Allison Balanc sang deep, passionate renditions of Jill Scott’s repertoire and did sweet justice to several Adele favorites.

The former Pepco regional president holds the annual fundraiser to help support a student-athlete in need of financial aid. Graham decided to give back to the University of Tampa (class of ’82) to honor the values of high character, commitment to excellence, appreciation of education and high work ethic-all values learned from his mother, Olive C. Graham ---a nurse, care-giver and woman of God---who made many sacrifices to see her son through college.
