County Council Chair Dannielle Glaros Weighs In On New Interim CEO of Prince George’s County Public School System
Stepping into the hot seat as Interim Chief Executive officer for Prince George’s County Public Schools, Dr. Monica Goldson says she will hold people accountable as she takes the reins following the exit of Dr. Kevin Maxwell, whose controversial term has left many unanswered questions and concerns. Dr. Goldson was unanimously selected July 12 by the Board of Education. Among her many duties, will be to oversee the preparation of the coming academic season.
County Council Chair Dannielle Glaros weighed in on the appointment:
“Dr. Goldson is a solid choice, and her appointment as Acting CEO signals a collective commitment to a smooth leadership transition for our schools, ensuring that the more than 130,000 students enrolled in one of the nation’s 25 largest school districts, will be well-received when classroom doors open in September.
Educating our children to compete in a global economy is a critical element to the success of Prince George’s County. All the County’s education stakeholders must maintain a steadfast devotion to collaboration, continually identifying opportunities to strengthen public school system operations, management and accountability and commit to ensuring that our students are well prepared for higher education and the demands of the workforce in our growing economy.
As the County’s fiscal authority, the county council is wholly vested in the success of our County’s school system, and in our budgetary oversight role, we will continue to work to ensure a return on County taxpayers’ significant investment in education.”
