Franklin To Lisanti: Resign
Councilman Urges House Speaker to Remove Delegate Lisanti from all Committees Indefinitely and for Expulsion from the House Democratic Caucus for Racially Insulting Prince George's County Residents
Council Member At-Large Mel Franklin (D-Prince George's County) reiterated his Feb. 27 posting on social media that Delegate Mary Ann Lisanti (D-District 34A) of Harford County should resign her seat due to corroborated reports that she recently used a racist slur, the n-word, to describe the communities of Legislative District 26, a legislative district in Southern Prince George's County. Until his most recent, successful election in 2018, At-Large Council Member Franklin served as the Council Member for District 9 in Prince George's County and represented a significant portion of the legislative district that Delegate Lisanti insulted. Council Member Franklin issued the following statement:
"When Delegate Lisanti used the worst racial slur in the English language, the n-word, to describe our residents, including children, seniors, veterans, and families in Prince George's County, she exhibited a hatred and racism that is beneath the dignity of any elected office. She should resign, plain and simple. Further, I urge House Speaker Michael Busch to indefinitely remove Delegate Lisanti from all House Committees and the Democratic Caucus to expel Delegate Lisanti from its ranks. Delegate Lisanti should no longer be allowed to function as a delegate in the Maryland General Assembly."
As of this update, Maryland House censured Delegate Lisanti, but she has, to date, refused to resign.
