No Excuse For Dating Abuse
2020 Teen Dating Violence Summit A Must For All Young People
One in three teenagers in the U.S. will be in an abusive or unhealthy relationship, becoming victim to sexual, physical, verbal, or emotional dating abuse. That’s 1.5 million young people each year. Oftentimes, young people don’t recognize the signs of abuse. And only 33% ask for help.
But there is information, resources and support.
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. It's a national effort carried out by activists, community leaders, and national and local organizations, to raise awareness about dating abuse, promote programs that support young people, and encourage communities to prevent this form of abuse with the goal of decreasing the prevalence of dating abuse among young people.
The Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Department of Family Services and with the assistance of the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Office of the States Attorney, join the national effort to protect and educate young people about dating violence. For the last seven years, the Teen Dating Violence Summit has brought valuable information and resources to teenagers in Prince George’s County.
During the 2020 ‘No Excuse for Dating Abuse’ Summit, teens will have a panel discussion with courageous conversations confronting issues of dating violence head-on and calling on the community for support and action. Additionally, there will be a visual arts and poetry contest, interactive visual arts expressions, refreshments, giveaways, and a live band with special guest Emcee Deja Perez!
