Pepco Provides Assistance Funding for Maryland and DC Customers—Including Many Who May Not Have Qualified In The Past

With wind chill temperatures continuing to fluctuate and the pandemic slashing the incomes of hundreds of families, Pepco announced additional assistance to it s customers March 1.

Assistance funding valued in the millions of dollars are available for customers who may be struggling to pay their energy bill. Customers who may have never qualified for assistance before, may now qualify. Pepco encourages customers to act now to secure funds while they last.

Pepco is granting assistance to Maryland and Washington, DC customers. The company works with community partners to help connect customers with grants and programs such as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

LIHEAP provides grants in varying amounts based on a household’s income size, type of fuel and type of dwelling, without required. Through LIHEAP, Maryland customers could qualify for more than $1,000 in assistance(D.C. customers qualifying for $1,800).

Pepco tells Maryland customers to apply for LIHEAP energy assistance through the Department of Human Services website, or by calling the Maryland Department of Human Services Office of Home Energy Programs at 1-800-332-6347. D.C. customers can apply for assistance online through the Department of Energy and the Environment website or by calling 3-1-1.

In addition to LIHEAP, other energy assistance resources offered to Maryland customers include The Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP), The Arrearage Retirement Assistance (ARA), and The Utility Service Protection Program (USPP). Prince George’s County residents may qualify for energy assistance from Mary’s Center by calling 202-545-2024 or going to maryscenter.org. Eligible Montgomery County residents can receive energy assistance from Interfaith Works by calling 301-762-8682.

D.C. customers can receive additional assistance from the following resource programs: The Utility Discount Program (UDP) and the Department of Energy and the Environment site at  doee.dc.gov. Greater Washington Urban League Customers can call 202-265-8200 or visit www.gwul.org.
