Fathers Rally To Host Prominent Leaders
At-Large Council Member Mel Franklin Hosts 1000 Fathers Rally For Peace In Prince George's County
Council Member Mel Franklin’s 1000 Fathers Rally is gaining momentum – and more prominent leaders to join him on the podium June 11.
Franklin is set to host the 1,000 Fathers Rally event in Prince George’s County. The event will be headlined by nationally renowned radio host Russ Parr, Governor Wes Moore, County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, and several other speakers and entertainers. Franklin issued a statement June 8 about the purpose of the event. “Persistent issues like youth crime are directly connected to fatherhood absence.”
“The data is clear,” he continues. “Outcomes for our youth are dramatically better when they have the strong presence of their father in their lives. Academic achievement is much higher and the chances of going to prison are dramatically lower. The 1,000 Fathers Rally for Peace in Prince George's County is an effort to (1) connect fathers with resources that they'd rarely ever find in one place to enable them to be better fathers and (2) inspire a culture of peace and responsible fatherhood in our communities. Eliminating fatherhood absence isn't the entire solution to the public safety and other quality of life challenges in our county. But it must be part of the solution. I hope our residents will join us on June 11 to send a powerful message that stronger fatherhood will lead to stronger families and a better quality of life for our communities.”
The event will feature Governor Wes Moore, Russ Parr, and Angela Alsobrooks to aid in highlighting stronger fatherhood amid persistent public safety challenges among Prince George's County's youth. It will also feature a fatherhood resources fair, where agencies and nonprofits will provide direct services like job placement and workforce services, mental and physical health screening, child support guidance, parole and probation services, re-entry and expungement services, and small business and nonprofit assistance. Small businesses and nonprofits in the county will also have a free opportunity to be exhibitors at the event and advertise their services to the attendees.
The event takes place 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 2:00 p.m.) at the Showplace Arena (indoors), 14900 Pennsylvania Avenue in Upper Marlboro And it’s free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to register here. All members of the public are encouraged to attend.
