Purple Line Light Rail ‘Looks Good’ for 2027 Open
The Purple Line is finally, almost, here.
The six-mile Light Rail in Maryland will include 21 stations between New Carrollton and Bethesda. DMV residents have been awaiting the service through a twisting and turning track of delays and alterations for over a decade.
The Purple Line isn’t part of the standard Metrorail system. It’s actually a project of the state of Maryland.
Another milestone for the Purple Line: the light rail vehicles (LRVs) have arrived! Each LRV is 140 feet long and seats 80. The train holds up to 400 people.
The Purple Line is over 65% done. It’s expected to open in 2027.
The Purple Line was slated to open in 2022. It’s been delayed til winter 2027. Any bets on 2028?
