Valentina Peleggi leads the NOI Philharmonic on a sonic journey through the city of Rome in this program featuring Ottorino Respighi’s famed Roman Trilogy. Originally hailing from Italy, Maestra Peleggi not only spent years studying in The Eternal City, but holds accolades from across the world, including a Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship. We set the scene with Roman Festivals, a four-movement tone poem which begins with an epic gladiator battle and concludes with an all-out party on the Piazza Navona. Taking a stroll through the city streets, we turn to four of the world’s most recognizable Fountains, sonically illustrated by flowing movements in the strings, conch-shell fanfares from the brass and birdsong in the flutes. The evening finishes with a bombastic conclusion in Pines of Rome, a well-loved orchestral staple which considers the scenic, looming trees at the edges of the city as they bear witness to centuries of life and death.
