Native American Heritage Day Walk

Join us in celebrating Native American Heritage Day with a native trees walk! Participants will be introduced to the basics of tree identification and learn how trees provide food, medicine, and materials for Piscataway People throughout the past and present. The tour will be a trail walk through various ecosystems of the Indigenous Cultural Landscape. This program is intended for adults.

This walking tour takes place outdoors and over uneven terrain. The Accokeek Foundation follows masking guidance from the National Park Service and local health agencies. Masks will be required indoors and for outdoor non-socially distanced activities if the COVID-19 community level for Prince George's County, as defined by the CDC, is HIGH at the time of the program.

Proceeds from this farm tour support the Accokeek Foundation's education programs and land conservation work in Piscataway Park.

Launched as a partnership between Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group, this program offers internationally acclaimed dance classes for people with Parkinson’s Disease in more than 250 communities and 24 countries.

For these classes, join local Dance for Parkinson's Disease certified instructor Lucy Bowen McCauley for a free workshop where participants are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative.

Join us as we vibe, breathe, move, and check in with ourselves and each other. These sessions will be co-created with the teens involved as we use music, games, and other activities to introduce yoga and other wellness practices. Yoga mats will be provided for the first 10 teens to register. The weekly workshop series will be facilitated by Shannon Martin of Breathe & Bloom.

Dance Master Classes at the Kennedy Center offer an opportunity to take classes led by some of the most talented and creative artists in the world of dance. This participatory, advanced-professional, class for adults (sorry, no observers allowed) is led by company members from Martha Graham Dance Company. Please respect the targeted skill level for the class and enjoy!

Please Note:

  • Please check in in the Hall of States. A Kennedy Center Dance Education staff member will escort you to the studio approximately 15 minutes before class begins.

  • Due to the structure of this contemporary dance class, no late entry will be permitted once this class has started.

  • Because this event involves physical activity, all participants will be required to sign a waiver form prior to participating. Please review this form prior to purchasing tickets and bring a signed copy with you to the workshop. Waivers will also be available at the door.

Discover the drumming traditions of Ghana and the Ashanti. Join us for a journey into the healing modality of dynamic rhythm.

Students will be guided in a coordinated drum circle and learn the skills to drum well and have fun while doing it. Discover drumming skills, African history, instruments, and meditations for healing ourselves through drumming.

No experience necessary. All drums are provided, but feel free to bring your own if you have them!
