Warm up this winter with an evening in sunny Spain! The Latin Grammy nominated Pan American Symphony Orchestra (PASO) brings you a lush symphonic extravaganza - works by three of Spain's most celebrated composers Pablo de Sarasate, Joaquin Turina, and Manuel de Falla. Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy for orchestra and violin, featuring Holly Nelson on violin, is based on the themes from Bizet's famous opera, Carmen, and is a virtuoso showcase for the violin. Turina's The Bullfighter's Prayer (Oración del Torero), originally written for a guitar quartet, and his Serenade (Serenata) have been masterfully arranged by Maestro Buslje for orchestra. Talented Argentine pianist, Agustin Muriago, solos on piano in Turina's Rapsodia Sinfónica. This concert also features excerpts from Manuel de Falla's El Amor Brujo and a work by Argentine composer, Carlos Guastavino, La Rosa y el Sauce.

Be part of the re-launch of The International Children’s Festival. This Festival is different from anything in the DC community. It is unique in that it collaborates with the embassies and focuses on children, encouraging and nurturing their understanding of the world as a whole and is designed to introduce children to different cultures and traditions.

WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE:

This year's theme, "Universal Explorers," is designed to provide Washington and surrounding area families with an unique exposure to international customs from a wide variety of cultures, all conveniently located in one central location. Every child will become a 'global explorer' and will have the opportunity to:

• Travel from booth to booth to get passport stamped

• Sample international cuisine

• Make traditional arts and crafts

• Learn about the diverse traditions and world geography

• Try on attire of countries around the world

• Enjoy international dance, music, and comedic acts. Many groups will delight children and their families by  inviting them on stage for interactive lessons.
