Sister Circle: The Power of Sisterhood

A review of The Power of Sisterhood by Cheryle T. Ricks speaks to women about seeking strength and faith from God and women/sisters who share a common bond in the struggles of making a life for family and selves in a very challenging and competitive world.

It took 58 years and The Power of Sisterhood to show me that I cannot blame all women for one woman's action. (30 years ago I saw one friend take another friend's boyfriend. This has shaped the way I deal with women.) With maturity and in reading this insightful book, I have learned we must start trusting and confiding in each other. As women, we share the same problems and concerns about our personal and professional lives; our health and family matters. If we can't share our problems with each other, we will remain alone in this struggle we call life. Of course we can communicate with our husbands/boyfriends but they do not understand the issues that women face everyday as mothers, nurturers, wives, professionals, daughters, care-givers and all around worker bees. Because we are the same, we understand each other on a sisterhood level. Rich or poor, attractive or average, thin or fat-we are still women and we still experience the same type of issues in our lives. It is vital that we connect and share and feed off of one another. We can offer advice, we can listen, we can relate because we have been there, we can all understand the reason for eating that pint of ice cream at 10pm at night.  

This book made me really take a look at myself and see how I have been hiding from the very people who can help me get through this crazy life. I thank Cheryle Ricks for writing this book and for making it easy for me to understand and grow beyond.
