Mind Over Matter: In The Midst of the #Me Too Movement, Live Podcast by Sexpert Michelle Hope Offers Liberating Advice for Millennial Women

By Nicole Livas

How’s your sex life? Are you open to talk about it? Sexologist Michelle Hope wants to empower women to become more comfortable with their own bodies and be assertive about what they want and need.

You can catch the activist during a live “Mind Over Matter” podcast in honor of National Women’s History Month on March 10  at 7:30. at New America in Washington, D.C.

Hope will talk about sexual liberation and healthy sex practices.  Hope, who is bi-racial, says it is especially important for women of color to empower themselves following the spotlight on the #MeToo movement.

Most recently there’s been attention on sexual harassment in Hollywood, politics, and the general workplace after some high-profile cases were uncovered and reported on in the media.

In a phone interview, Hope told The Suite, “The ‘Me Too’ movement turned into a Hollywood situation, but if you look at the statistics, women of color are the biggest victims. We need to speak to the bigger oppression women are faced with.”

Hope wants to empower women to gain the confidence to tell their partners what they want so they can lead happier and healthier lives. “If women are more sexually assertive, they are more likely to have safer sex,” Hope says.  “Sex should never be silent and the importance of consent goes beyond just one conversation. When we are really connected to our partner’s pleasure they are naturally connected to the communication and that’s how you avoid confusion around consent.”

Hope is a veteran speaker who has facilitated programs across the country. She calls herself an inclusive sex educator. You’ll no doubt get information on some serious topics, but she will also address some fun topics during the live D.C.- based millennial podcast.

Mind Over Matter” started in 2016 to provide a platform for millennials to speak about various issues from an African-American perspective.
