A Perfect Arrangement
The Comedic Tale of Closeted Lives at Greenbelt Arts Center
It is 1950, the era of the Red Scare - the hysteria over the perceived threat of possible invasion by Communists in the U.S. during the Cold War. Fear and repression lead to a call to action: identify and report to authorities anyone who is considered a threat to strict traditional American values.
In Washington, D.C., two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been ordered to identify sexual deviants in their office. But Bob and Norma are gay and have married each other’s partners as a ruse in a perfect arrangement during these turbulent times.
Based on the nascent days of the American Gay Rights movement, the compelling drama Perfect Arrangement written by Topher Payne, offers laughs and lessons as two patriotic couples take on both the mores of their time and the closet door. Directed by Ann Lowe-Barrett and produced by William Powell, the production is on stage at the Greenbelt Arts Center, 123 Centerway, Greenbelt, Md. February 8-23, 2019 and features Jonathan Meeker, Ronda Ansted, Susan Harper, Win Britt, Janice Coffey, Bob Singer, and Joy Gerst.
On February 17, stay after the show for a Q&A with the cast and the radical feminist, author, and editor John Stoltenberg about the Lavender Scare, LGBTQ issues, acting, comedy and more! This will be facilitated by Dr. Adria Williams, a clinical psychologist with a practice in Greenbelt.
The Greenbelt Arts Center has partnered with PG-CASA for this production. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to support PG-CASA’s vital work providing a voice for abused and neglected children.
Ticket prices: $22 General Admission, $20 Students/Seniors/Military, $12 Youth (ages 12 and under with adult). There is a GAC Federal Employee Appreciation Discount of $2 off tickets for federal employees and contractors.
While the show features adult themes and language, and therefore, may not be appropriate for everyone, the lessons learned are ageless.
