Women Of Lockerbie
Spirit of Love Trumps Spirit of Hate
On December 21, 1988, Pam Am Flight 103 from London's Heathrow Airport to New York was blown up in midair by the detonation of an explosive device hidden in a suitcase in the cargo hold. All 259 people on board and 11 more on the ground were killed. The explosion occurred over Lockerbie, Scotland, a small town approx. 20 miles from the English border. The disaster left families with an unimaginable loss.
In a drama presented by Deborah Brevoort and directed by Estelle Miller, Bowie Community Theater will present “The Women of Lockerbie” March 1-17.
The play follows a family, the Livingstons, as they come to Lockerbie for a memorial service seven years after the explosion. They meet the women of Lockerbie and find them washing the clothes of the deceased and returning them to their families. It is a powerful, emotional, uplifting presentation that shows that love and the human spirit can triumph over evil.
