State Championships: Here We Come!

The Annual Prince George County Boys and Girls Basketball Championship games were held February 23, at Dr. Henry Wise High School. This game pits the champion from the 1A-2A-3A league vs the 4A league champion. With both its boys' and Girls' teams involved in championship night this year, Gwynn Park created a theme of Gwynn Park versus Everybody. Gwynn Park's league dominance was on full display as their Girls and Boys' Varsity teams secured their spots in the Championship game, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown. The girl's game against 4A Champion Charles Herbert Flowers was genuinely electric. The lead exchanged hands multiple times throughout the intense match. Ultimately, Gwynn Park emerged victorious with a narrow 52-51 win.
The 55 to 42 final score did not reflect the game's closeness between Gwynn Park and Bowie Boys Teams. Gwynn Park Boys Basketball Coach Rob Gardner stated: " Watching both the Girls & Boys compete and win was amazing. I'm proud of the community for coming out and supporting in such a high fashion. God is Good, and we will remain humble as we continue to pursue our State Championship Goals!" Academic excellence is part of Gwynn Park's culture. Senior Ty Bevins 2024 has signed with George Washington University. Four other seniors, Tony Pope III, DaMarco Pannell, Demarcus Daniel Jr, and Jonathan Barkley, expect to accept college scholarship offers.
The Gwynn Park vs. Everybody theme would not be complete without acknowledging its Cheerleaders. They are the 14-time defending County Champions. They were the only African American Cheer Team to make the finals in the Texas Nationals (Second Place), a benchmark in excellence. Their seniors will also be receiving scholarship offers from all college levels
