A New Posse Rises
Four Year College Scholarships Awarded To Prince George’s High School Seniors Thru Posse Foundation. Meet The Scholars.
Riding with a posse like this can really take you places.
Thirteen Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) high school seniors have been named 2021 Posse Scholars and will receive four-year, full-tuition college scholarships from The Posse Foundation’s partnering schools.
“I never would’ve dropped out of college if I’d had my posse with me.” This student’s lament was the catalyst for the creation of the Posse Foundation. Since its beginning in 1989, The organization selects students with outstanding academic and leadership qualities from across the nation to become Posse Scholars.
They will enter colleges and universities in multicultural groups of 10 known as “posses.” Throughout their college career, and with the ongoing assistance from the Posse Foundation, these students will support, and encourage each other’s academic journey while learning that diversity, acceptance, and communication are key to a better world.
Posse Scholars have a 90 percent graduation rate. Since 2013 more than 50 PCGPS students have received Posse Scholarships, each worth approx. $140,000.
“The Posse Theory: Put people together so they can reinforce one another, compensate for each other’s weaknesses, build on each other’s strengths…it’s genius!” –Gen. Colin Powell
