The Department of Family Services Launches Dial 211 – A Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Campaign

In an effort to increase domestic violence awareness and prevention, the Prince George’s County Department of Family Services launched a new campaign – Dial 211.

One of four women and one in seven men become victims of domestic violence – behavior by one person to control and dominate another person within a close relationship. This behavior may include verbal abuse, physical assault, sexual assault, psychological abuse, social abuse, economic abuse or emotional abuse. For a myriad of reasons, many victims of domestic violence feel “stuck” in these hurtful and violent relationships, with little or no hope for escape. But this cannot be farther from the truth.

Similar to other hotlines, Dial 211 is a telephone resource linking victims of domestic violence to local centers offering help - advocacy, education, counseling and legal services, abuser intervention, court companionship, and safe haven – whether it be emergency or long-term safe housing.

Hope is literally a phone call away.
