Got Green for the Purple
Full Federal Funding Secured for Purple Line
Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III released this statement following confirmation today that full federal funding has been secured for the Purple Line allowing this critical infrastructure project to move forward.
“This is great news for residents of Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, the State of Maryland and the National Capital Region as countless citizens will be positively impacted by the Purple Line and the accessible transportation options it will provide for jobs, education, and recreation along its 16 mile corridor. After years of unnecessary delays, this is welcome news for a project that will create greater access to public transportation, relieve congestion and stimulate job growth and investment.
Now with federal funding secured, no additional time should be wasted in moving ahead with the construction of this vital transportation infrastructure project. I look forward to breaking ground for the Purple Line here in Prince George’s County very soon. This project will create thousands of new construction jobs connecting two of Maryland’s most robust economic corridors for smart and sustainable growth. I want to thank and congratulate our partners in Montgomery County and, specifically, County Executive Leggett for their unwavering support and partnership. I also want to thank Governor Hogan, Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn and the Maryland Transit Administration for their engagement and for convincing the federal government to fully fund this project that we have already invested decades in planning as well as millions of taxpayer dollars.
Prince George’s County has been creating jobs and increasing property values at a breakneck pace and now with the Purple Line back on track, our economic growth and prosperity will continue to grow to unprecedented heights.”
