Purple Wheels Are Turning
Purple Metro Line Finally on Track
By Lauren Poteat
After more than two decades of planning D.C. residents can now look forward to easier travel around the DMV region with the official announcement of Metro’s “Purple Line.”
The unveiling of the new project took place Aug. 28, in the area of New Carrollton where Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Montgomery County Executive Ike Legget, participated in a ceremonial signing of the project’s federal full funding grant agreement.
The purple line project is expected to begin right away and is reportedly being designed to give people in southern Maryland, a more concise route to and from Bethesda and Silver Spring, without ever entering D.C.
The line is also intended to make traveling more easy to and from the Capital Beltway and East West Highway and create 52,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to Chao.
