The 2018 world championship of 3-on-3 basketball will be decided this weekend in Southeast Washington, D.C.
Teams from sixteen countries will compete September 14 and 15 for $8,000 in prizes on the Barry Farms courts during an outdoor basketball competition that organizers say stress endurance, skills and teamwork.
This is the second year for the Red Bull Reign World Finals that began with more than 2,500 athletes and 650 teams from across five continents that included: Angola, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Montenegro, Netherlands, Philippines, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey and the United States.
The U.S. National Qualifier rounds were held September 14 with teams from Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland, New Orleans and Memphis. There will also be a female competition with teams from Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City and Atlanta.
A D.C. team won the world championship last year after playing and winning more than 20 games over the course of two days. Teams advance by tallying up the most points cumulatively through multiple games at each stage. An overall winner is decided from the team who gets the most points in each phase of the tournament.
The Red Bull Reign World Finals will start at 11am Saturday at the Barry Farms Goodman League Courts.
