Employ Prince George’s (EPG), Prince George’s County’s re-branded workforce development organization announced its official launch August 23.

The relaunch comes at a time when Prince George’s County has had the highest job growth in Maryland for two consecutive years.

Now, county leaders plan to take that success bar even higher.

The office’s repositioning and strategic plan is an effort to give county residents career pathways to success and access to employment that will pay a living wage.

“American Job Center Community Network is where everyone in Prince George’s County and the region dedicated to helping improve the lifestyles of our residents can come together in one place to serve one mission,” said Walter Simmons, President and CEO of Employ Prince George’s. “Employ Prince George’s will ensure that everyone is cohesively working together and communicating to making this a reality. We are going to be the engineer to changing the Prince George’s County’s Public Workforce System with the help of our elected officials and our community network partners. We are committed to serving as the bridge between job seekers and businesses.”

According to EPG officials, the office serves as the link between job seekers looking to begin or change careers, and businesses looking for skilled workers to maintain competitiveness in a changing labor market. EPG’s mission is to contribute to the economic vitality of Prince George’s County by providing a demand driven system that delivers qualified workers to businesses and provides job seekers with opportunities for careers in high demand and high growth industries.

“So many of our residents do not get to work in their own county and we want to change that,” said county councilman Mel Franklin, (D-Dist. 9). “We are an economic destination for the world. We want our residents to live and work in Prince George’s County. That means we need a strategy that focuses on connecting these residents with the opportunities of the 21st century economy. Walter Simmons and his team have been doing that work and now they are taking their efforts to the next level.”
