The Start Of Something Big
Achievement Center Education Program Comes To Prince George’s
Learning knows no bounds. A new effort among education leaders will exemplify that notion.
A ribbon cutting for the opening of a new “Higher Achievement Center” at Greenbelt Middle School was held July 2.
Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks joined Prince George’s County Public Schools CEO Dr. Monica Goldson at the ceremony. It marked Higher Achievement’s first-ever program in Prince George’s. Alsobrooks announced a $50,000 grant from her office’s Community Partnership Grants program to help support the center.
Higher Achievement DC Metro currently operates seven achievement centers across the region (Wards 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and Alexandria, VA). The Greenbelt Achievement Center will be the site of Higher Achievement’s six-week summer program (June 24 – July 31), as well as an afterschool academy corresponding with the next school year. 60 students will take part in the program this year, and beginning in the fall, the program will include 30 volunteer mentors recruited from the community.
