Breaking Ground On Premier Sports Complex
Leaders Join In Celebration of Groundbreaking Ceremony for Liberty Sports Park, The Region’s Premier Sports Complex and Vacation Destination
Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks joined other leaders in celebrating the construction of the new Liberty Sports Park in a groundbreaking ceremony October 23 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Liberty Sports Park is located just south of Central Avenue on the southbound side of US 301 in Prince George’s County at 201 Prince George’s Blvd.) Liberty is co-located within South Lake, a new, 381+ acre mixed-use community that will feature on-site dining, hotel and entertainment options, allowing visitors to eat, play and stay in one location.
The location makes it minutes away from Washington, D.C., Baltimore and other popular area attractions.
Fields are expected to be in use 30 weekends each year and host roughly 344,800 total visits. Liberty directors project the venue will create more than 320 new local jobs along with more than 180 potential new jobs in the state of Maryland. The local economy is expected to be boosted by more than $28 Million in spending and the state economy by more than $14 Million.
Slated to open by Spring 2022 and touted by Alsobrooks as the mid-Atlantic region’s premier sports complex, the park will feature 10 lighted fields (for nighttime play), six turf fields and four grass fields supporting youth and adult programming associated with soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, football and rugby. Ensuring that local youth will benefit from Liberty Sports Park, access to the facility will be made available to Prince George’s County Public Schools, Prince George’s Community College, and the Prince George’s County Boys and Girls Club.
“It represents, for all of us, yet another truly transformative project for Prince George’s County,” Alsobrooks was quoted to say by WTOP. “Liberty Sports Park will be the region’s premier sports destination offering yet another great reason to visit our county.”
