Prince George’s County Councilwoman (D-Dist.8) Monique Anderson-Walker partnered with Central Baptist Church of Camp Springs to launch a vaccination site that opened on Mar. 19. The site, sponsored by the Maryland Equity Task Force is designed to provide a location for vaccinations for those in need.
A tour of the site was held Mar. 27 led by Councilwoman Anderson-Walker.
National Guard Brigadier General Janeen L. Birckhead, appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to lead the Task Force, toured the site with Anderson-Walker who saw the need to establish a place to accommodate many who were disheartened at not being able to receive the vaccine. Central Baptist Church of Camp Springs serves as a central location and accommodates that need.
Since the launch, close to 700 people have been successfully vaccinated. The vaccination site only serves pre-registered appointments which must be confirmed over the phone with one of the members of the volunteer team. There are NO walk-in’s or calls. Appointments confirmed for March 29, could bring the total of vaccinations given in the four days to 1000 people.
Many seniors were brought to tears, with a sense of relief, knowing they were getting their COVID-19 vaccine. Some shared, even essential workers, that they had been on up to six COVID-19 vaccine registration lists since February and were frustrated in not being able to secure an appointment. Educators and school employees expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to get vaccinated before students return to the classrooms.
Additional vaccination dates for this District 8 site will be announced in early April. For more information, check @D8Monique
