Riding On PEPCO Power
Prince George’s County’s First Electric Vehicle Charging Stations To Be Installed in the City of Mt. Rainer
The county is getting charged up and ready to roll.
Pepco has joined the City of Mt. Rainier’s Mayor Malinda Miles and the Maryland Energy Administration to celebrate the installation of three new Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. These charging stations are part of the hundreds of stations that will be installed by Pepco in Prince George’s County as part of the company’s EVsmart program.
Pepco’s EVsmart program was initially launched in 2019 to bring public charging networks to Prince George’s and Montgomery counties and provide incentives for customers switching to this cleaner and more efficient form of transportation.
Pepco has extensive EVsmart plans in Prince George’s County. Recently, four new charging stations were energized at the Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro with an additional five stations in Greenbelt that are currently scheduled to be completed. In addition, construction is planned for sites in Capitol Heights, Forest Heights, and Oxon Hill. EVsmart installations in Prince George’s County will be completed by the end of 2023.
At an event held on March 22, Mayor Miles, representatives from Pepco, and others, shared remarks about the significance of the installation before cutting a ribbon.
“I want to say to Pepco and to Maryland Energy Administration, we have done amazing things together with electric infrastructure and we’re cutting down on energy costs,” stated Miles.
Pepco Region Vice President Will Ellis said, “Pepco is excited to expand this program to help our communities benefit from this clean energy transformation. I want to thank Mayor Miles for making Mt. Rainier the first Prince George’s County community to benefit from these charging stations.”
The new electric vehicle charging stations are available for public use at 35th St. in Mt. Rainier.
