Braveboy Adds Star Power To Campaign Against Domestic Violence
State's Attorney Braveboy Teams Up With Iyanla Vanzant And Others To Raise Awareness About Domestic Violence
State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy's 6th annual ‘Not One’ campaign was on October 30, 2023, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The event took place at City of Praise Family Ministries 8501 Jericho City Drive, Landover, MD 20785. Over the past 6 years, she has brought the community together to support survivors and recognize victims of domestic violence as part of the event.
This year, she and her team were excited to have the phenomenal Iyanla Vanzant as their special guest. She is an international speaker, author, life coach, and attorney. Other guests at the event, include survivors, community partners, and supporters.
Ms. Vanzant, who is a survivor of abuse, says it’s important for people to know, they “are not alone.” She underscored the importance of the ‘Not One’ event adding, “Come out and be in community, hear other stories that will inspire you to let you know that it hurts bad enough for you to do whatever is required to leave.”
The ‘Not One’ campaign, which means zero tolerance for ‘not one’ act of domestic violence of any kind towards another, is near and dear to State's Attorney Braveboy. She launched this campaign to raise awareness after the tragic killing of her cousin, who was a victim of domestic violence. Her cousin was stabbed to death by her partner.
“Let’s work together until we zero out domestic violence,” said State’s Attorney Braveboy. “My office works every day to prosecute abusers and support victims. I believe it’s also important for members of the community to support individuals who are in abusive relationships as they work to get out.”
State's Attorney Braveboy also successfully advocated for a tougher strangulation law in Annapolis and coordinated the County’s Interagency Strangulation Protocol along with other agencies.
