The Start Of A New Chapter
CAO Tara Jackson Steps Up to Top County Executive
In a statement released by the county’s executive level offices, acting Prince George’s County Executive Tara Jackson said the following:
“As you may know, former Prince George’s County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks has resigned her position to begin her new duties as U.S. Senator for the State of Maryland. Pursuant to the County Charter, I as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) have been assigned to assume the role of Acting County Executive.
I may be new to the position of County Executive, but I have a longstanding dedication to this County. I have been in public service for almost 20 years, and I have always had one focus: to do the right thing. I’ve been committed to leading with principle, serving with integrity, and operating in a way that maximizes community impact.
This commitment was in me from when I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law and started as a line prosecutor in the State's Attorney's Office. It stayed with me as I worked in private practice. It grew as I returned to the State Attorney’s Office to work as Principal Deputy State's Attorney, and as I went on to serve as Deputy County Attorney where I provided legal counsel to various government agencies and helped manage administration of the State’s Attorney’s office.
I carried this commitment with me when I went on to become the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Government Operations under County Executive Alsobrooks, helping to streamline County operations and enhance public service delivery. And this commitment has been the foundation of my time serving as CAO, where I served as a special advisor to County Executive Alsobrooks and provided counsel on difficult policy and fiscal matters.
As CAO, I was fortunate to collaborate with other leaders that held that same dedication to a stronger Prince George’s County. I had opportunities to empower others that had the same spirit of service. Bringing together people with shared goals kept our County grounded through challenging times, such as when we faced the COVID-19 pandemic. I can tell you it helped guide me in the face of the unprecedented as I led efforts to transition our County workforce to remote operations, establish vaccination centers, and manage federal relief funds with fiscal responsibility.
As I take on this role as Acting County Executive, my commitment remains the same – to do the right thing on behalf of Prince George’s County and our residents. My desire to work with anyone that shares this vision remains rock solid. My pledge is to prioritize resident services and optimize government efficiency. I am dedicated to working with Council during this period of transition to maintain fiscal responsibility.
And my hope is to continue partnering with the residents of this County to keep us moving forward. If we keep working together, we can achieve our vision for a thriving and inclusive community.”
Yours in service,
Tara Jackson
