Andrews Alliance Hosts Farewell For Officer

For twenty years the Andrews Alliance, a coalition partnership of community, business and Joint Base Andrews leaders, has hosted the kind of bond that fosters influential results that lift the community and the military professionals while building relationships that last a lifetime.

But every two years, there’s a changing of the base commander. Col Todd Randolph, who has served as commander since 2022, has now been assigned to a duty in New York. But the native Marylander received a charming farewell as part of a June 7 luncheon at Mama Stella’s in Clinton, MD.

“We are going to be losing someone who’s really touched all of us,” said Andrews Alliance President & CEO M.H. Jim Estepp just before presenting Col. Randolph with the Alliance’s community leadership award. “[This is] not only for the work he has done but for his heart. We miss everyone that comes in and out but every once in awhile there are very, very special folks that are here. So, Colonel, if you’ll come forward, we would like to present this recognition to you” Estepp said.

Greater Prince George’s Business Roundtable Board Chair Michael Chiaramonte read the inscription on the award. Then Col. Randolph modestly rose to the podium.

“No singular person is credited for all the things that we do,” Randolph said. “It’s a team effort. If you can imagine walking down a road and you find a turtle on a fence post, you may not know unequivocally how the turtle got there, but you know it didn't get there alone. We all have to remember who makes up our fence posts. No matter what position you get to, no matter what elected role that you have, you didn't get there alone. Our community and our broader team is why we're successful as a state, as a county, and as a joint base here in Maryland.”

“I will say thank you for this recognition,” he continued. “Thank you to the Alliance for all that you have done for Joint Base Andrews, our service members, and our families. I pray that you will continue to do that because our service members and our families need your continued support. I thank all of you for [supporting me on] my fence posts.”
